Support at Winstanley

At Winstanley College, our students thrive in a positive learning environment which challenges students to achieve their very best and we pride ourselves on the support we offer to students to make that a possibility.

There are lots of sources of support available in College to help you achieve your best, including:

  • Your Personal Tutor who is your link between college and home. Your PT will look after you when you first arrive, and they are your first point of contact to turn to for help and advice. They will monitor your progress throughout your time here and will challenge and support you to be your best.
  • College’s Study Support team can help improve your strategies for learning and can help with any study skills development that you might benefit from.
  • We have extensive experience to provide you with resources, advice and guidance to help you plan your future so that Winstanley College can be the start of your successful career.
  • The Student Help Desk is staffed throughout the day to help you with your day to day queries.

Personal Tutors and Guidance

When you first come to Winstanley College, you will be welcomed at Induction by your Personal Tutor. Our aim is that you will have the same Personal Tutor for your two years at college so that staff and students get to know each other well.

Your Personal Tutor who will guide you through your time at college. They will monitor your attendance; review and encourage your progress and help to guide you on your choices for the future. Your Personal Tutor is the first person that you would go to for advice and support, and we have an appointments-booking system via student Services.

You will follow a schedule of group Guidance sessions which cover a range of topics including health and wellbeing, academic progress / monitoring and citizenship.

You will also have a number of 1-1s with your Personal Tutor where you will review your recent progress in your subjects and set targets to help you achieve. These 1-1s also provide the opportunity to discuss any support that you might benefit from, either academic or pastoral, and to discuss your progression options for after college.
